An extensive two-month journey through Australia was terminated in the wake of the tragic passing of an older woman who was stranded by the cruise liner on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been trekking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the group for a rest. The ship departed without her and came back several hours later after the personnel became aware the woman was not present.

An extensive hunt found her body the following day.

Officials are investigating the incident, together with police and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the shipping company said that passengers and personnel on the ship were notified that the rest of the cruise had been called off due to the "tragic passing and previous mechanical issues".

In a statement, he added that guests would be given a full refund, and said the operator was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the travelers via private aircraft".

Authorities also published an updated announcement, and said they had "issued a order to the Captain" banning any additional guests from getting on the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the ship in Cairns upon its coming back.

Sequence of Events

The vessel first departed the Australian port on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the moment of the senior passenger's passing. Lizard Island was the first stop on the journey.

Travelers on board - who generally pay substantial amounts of money to participate in the cruise - were transported there for a shore visit with the option of hiking or snorkeling.

She further stated that she wished the investigation would be able to pinpoint what "the company should have undertaken that might have saved Mother's life".

"Based on information from the police that it was a extremely warm afternoon, and mum fell ill on the uphill trek," she revealed.

"They requested her to go back, without accompaniment. Then the vessel departed, apparently without performing a headcount.

Operator Response

Via official communication, the CEO affirmed that the company was "working closely with investigators to support their inquiry".

He said that the firm was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had provided its complete assistance to the loved ones.
