Triple NBA Most Valuable Player Jokic suffered a "heartbreaking" knee injury as the Nuggets were defeated 147-123 against the Heat.

The star player was hurt in the latter stages of the opening half following an accidental collision with fellow Nugget Spencer Jones.

His teammate stepped on the footwear of Jokic, who instantly went down to the ground clutching his leg.

The star, who leads the league this season in rebounds and assists, posted a score of 21 points and eight assists in the matchup prior to sustaining the injury.

The player will undergo an MRI on the following day to assess the seriousness of the issue.

"Immediately, he knew he was hurt," commented Denver head coach David Adelman.

"This is part of the NBA. Anyone who gets hurt, it's difficult, particularly somebody as important as him. We will know more tomorrow."

"We will continue as a team. Clearly, at this moment, I am more worried primarily about him as a person and the letdown of facing a situation of that nature."
