Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
