This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the county's top official experienced a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life free from concern.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said the event host, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they toasted the pig's pardon.
