Slot Offers Zero Justifications and Vows to Plot Way Out of Slump
Liverpool's head coach stated he needed to “look at myself” following Liverpool endured a 6th loss in seven Premier League games on their own turf against Forest and insisted he would discover a way out of the champions’ slump.
Nottingham Forest, fighting against the drop prior to the match, delivered the biggest victory at Anfield in their club records as Liverpool slipped to an eighth loss in 11 matches in all competitions. The most expensive domestic acquisition, the Swedish striker, was again unnoticeable and the home side contended the defender's opener should have been disallowed for similar reasons to the captain's disallowed effort versus City prior to the national team pause. But Slot conceded the responsibility stopped with him and made no excuses.
“Nobody wishes to listen to me now talking about refereeing decisions if you are defeated 3-0 at home to Forest,” said the Liverpool head coach. “I should examine my own role initially and my squad, but it does show you how a score can change the flow of a game. Earlier I was just hoping for us to score a goal. Later we barely created any chances.
“Naturally there is a way out, especially with the quality players we have. No matter if you triumph or are beaten when you look back you are always considering: ‘In which areas can we do better, in what aspects can we make changes?’ but that is something else from doubting your abilities.
“I wish to stress I am accountable for the current losses. You are responsible when you are winning but also responsible when you are defeated. I can not come up with enough reasons for us to have the results we have. That is not acceptable and I am to blame for that.”
The team's display unravelled as Slot introduced multiple offensive substitutions when chasing the match. “It was the same away at Forest the previous campaign,” he said. “I took the French defender out and put on the Portuguese forward and he scored straight away to equalize at 1-1. At that time it was brave, currently it’s likely unwise.”
Liverpool previously were defeated in back-to-back at Anfield league fixtures by Nottingham Forest in 1963. The last time they lost consecutive league games by a 3-0 scoreline was in 1965.
The manager said: “It was very bad. Playing at home, conceding 3-0 no matter which team you face is a very, very bad outcome. Unexpected if you look at the opening 30 minutes of the match. I did not witness us creating so much in the initial half-hour maybe the entire season, and the first time they entered in our box they found the back of the net.
“It wasn’t against Manchester City, but in all other fixture we have been the controlling team and were capable to generate chances. Recently it is almost constantly that we fail to convert our opportunities and the ones we concede find the net.”
