Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from his teammate by one point after winning in Mexico City recently, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Piastri had been the leading McLaren for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in realistic title contention, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he spun at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending corner before the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran finished practice in P19, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, over half a second off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
