New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “in good spirits” during their recent conversation.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he has been listed as critical but stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” he added. “But I will say this, just talking to him, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and he’s talking that way.”

New York police released surveillance images Monday of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and police mentioned it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries according to reports.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday morning in the area between MSG and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his wife just had a baby.

“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and my priority is his well-being. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There is a procedure involved, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd was inactive this season, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.

He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in spring and was expected to be an important component of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. But Boyd was injured during a training camp practice on early August and had to be helped off.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he attends every game. His commitment is total. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of Texas University in 2019. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houston’s squad later that season. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
