Football Analyst Sutton Takes On Singer Olly Murs in Top Flight Forecasts

The Gunners' ten-match winning streak came to an end by the Black Cats before the international hiatus, but can the Premier League frontrunners recover against local foes Spurs this Sunday?

"{I believe like Arsenal are light years ahead of Tottenham currently but Spurs boss Thomas Frank will have a strategy for this game," remarked soccer expert Chris Sutton.

"Frank will attempt to nullify Arsenal, who have not always been at their sparkling best this campaign - but Mikel Arteta's team usually still find a way to win."

The analyst is making predictions for all 380 Premier League fixtures this season, against AI, readers and a range of guests.

In week 12, he takes on singer Olly Murs, who is a Manchester United fan.

Murs' new album, the new release, is out on the weekend.

Football and Family Experiences

Olly is a skilled footballer as well as a successful singer and has been a star of several Soccer Aid games down the years - but he is not planning a serious comeback as a footballer.

"{I actually played in a charity match the other evening for a friend of mine," he said. "The team was losing 3-1 when I came off in the second half, and they went on to win 4-3, so you can read into that what you want!

"I still love football, but I injured my joint a few years ago and it still isn't where I want it to be. I hope I could play more but the unpredictability of the game means it's too risky for me in my career to do it seriously again.

"Additionally I am forty-one now, and we are not everyone is Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very content not playing football and I am gearing up for the time that my daughter or boy decides to play instead."

The singer and his wife Amelia Tank have a young family, Madison and Albert, and he is prepared to follow in his father's footsteps by becoming their coach.

"I won't force football on our children but I've previously told Amelia that if they do get the passion for it then I will have to go and get my manager qualifications - and I will likely be coaching their weekend soccer team," he said.

"I watched my nephews play a lot, and I truly got into it, and I clearly was involved with a football club for a period too.

"My father coached with us when I was a child, which is likely where I inherited it. He managed our team for several seasons and had great fun with it. That could be the future for me as well, and I am excited to it!"

Premier League Forecasts

Weekend, 22 November

  • Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT

Chelsea may have to wait a bit longer for Cole Palmer's return from fitness issues but their offense is now stronger with Joao Pedro and Delap both returned to fitness.

I still think this fixture will be quite close, however. The Clarets are disciplined and their sole at Turf Moor defeats so far have been against the Reds and the Gunners.

It smells of a 1-1 draw to me, but I am actually going to choose the London side to win narrowly for what would be their third league win in a row.

The expert's forecast: 1-2

Olly's prediction: Chelsea will be superior. 1-3

AI's outlook: 0-2

  • Vitality Stadium, 15:00 GMT

The Cherries have lost their previous couple matches - albeit both of them were on the road - but they got absolutely spanked by Villa last time out which shocked me.

On the other hand, the Hammers won two in a row before the hiatus and, although both of those games were at home, they appear strong again.

The Hammers' sole away victory this season came at Nottingham Forest in August, when their manager Nuno was still that team's coach.

So, what exactly do I predict here - can West Ham continuing their streak under Nuno, or Bournemouth responding?

I am going to go with the Cherries, because I believe what occurred against Villa was a anomaly.

Sutton's prediction: 2-0

Olly's outlook: The home team are performing strongly but the visitors have improved under their boss. 2-2

The algorithm's pick: 1-1

  • Amex Stadium, 15:00 GMT

The Bees were considered one of the frontrunners for the drop before the campaign began, but they have surprised a several observers under Keith Andrews and are in fine fettle with three wins in their past four games.

A family member told me to get Brentford forward Igor Thiago in my fantasy soccer squad a few weeks back and, guess what, I didn't listen.

Thiago will probably find the net again on the weekend but I am nonetheless not going to pick him or back the away side at Amex Stadium.

They have not had great success on the road this term, and Brighton are consistently strong at home. Brentford will attempt to attack on the break but I think the home manager's side pose much more of a threat.

The analyst's prediction: 2-1

The singer's prediction: This could be a match where you think there is going to be a many goals but it in reality proves to be rather close. 1-1

The computer's outcome: 2-1

  • Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT

It is a huge game for Fulham, who have suffered defeat in five of their last six matches.

Fulham have have lots of quality in their team but it still seems like they could be dragged into a relegation battle.

As for the Black Cats, well they are the unexpected success of the Premier League season so far.

The away side's performance in the 2-2 draw with the Gunners last time out was superb. We have not witnessed any other team rough up the Gunners like that this term, and they were more than a match for them.

The logical choice would be to back the visitors here, because they are obviously capable of roughing Fulham up too and, the last time they were in west London, they beat Chelsea at the close of last month.

However I am not going to choose that. Instead, I truly need to continue going against the away team with my forecasts. I am claiming a lot of credit for their good results because they clearly love to defy my predictions.

Looking at Fulham's home form, the only side they have been defeated by is the league leaders. Their manager's team will be absolutely desperate for a positive outcome, so I am going to say they will secure three much-needed points.

Sutton's forecast: 1-0

The guest's prediction: I'm aware Sunderland are performing strongly and additionally that Fulham are on a poor streak... but Fulham have nonetheless been respectable at home this campaign. 2-0

The algorithm's outlook: 2-0

  • Anfield, 15:00 GMT

It is a tough fixture to call. The Reds have suffered seven of their last ten matches in all competitions, but might they be among the teams who benefit from the {international break|
