Followers Demand Custody of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the pop star are calling for that a individual who breached a barrier and grabbed the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating video depicts the individual from Australia pushing past media personnel and lunging at Grande while the cast proceeded down a yellow carpet surrounded by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly pulled the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "let go after being arrested", though court documents showed that he was set to attend court on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was charged.
History of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a performance. His Instagram profile features videos of him disrupting other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the area last December.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user wrote.
Fans Show Disapproval Over the Star's Past Trauma
Several followers criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed dealing with PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her spring 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented a further comment on Instagram.
A number of attendees also criticised guards at the Thursday event for not being vigilant enough; while others demanded social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande seemed startled when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Numerous of supporters had assembled in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore mall, including several who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be released on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-part interpretation of the acclaimed Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely bond between two very different characters.
The production itself is a adaptation of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a champagne pink sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful film of the previous year in the UK, and scored a dozen Academy Award nods, earning two for outstanding attire and production design.
