Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for questions to be raised about his future after a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Issues and Player Reaction
The manager lamented known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period like this with performances this poor.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to the top, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
